Imagination's Broom
Through the glass
the dawn brings
a smoky transparency.
Above the mist
peach-colored strips
turn brilliant orange,
only to fade into
slight whispers
of blue.
Coyotes and dogs
strike an interminable
harmonic chorus
each determined to refine
his or her own
mimicry of the other.
Stillness pinpoints
a ceaseless melody
inside a woman's being.
Turning within, she
walks through
the open door.
Impulsively, she asks,
"What room is this?"
Vague familiarity envelopes
memories before this time.
Dust clings to objects
left in disarray.
Mechanically, her gaze is pulled without.
She sees the same room.
Canine music plays in the background.
"Why, this disorder is simply,
unacceptable!"
A broom stands lifeless in a corner.
As she approaches,
It springs to life!
Magic, awaiting a magician.
The sweeping commencement begins.
No ordinary broom, this spirited
steed. Her hands try to rein in this
being set on transformation.
Realization floods every pore.
She stands in the center -
mystified!
Sweep, sweep, sweep ...
her ordinary clothes become
exquisitely dazzling.
Sweep, sweep, sweep ...
her attitude seeps love; her attention,
riveted in love's source.
Closing her eyes,
two rooms become
One.
